AFTERTASTE

(about project)
Presented at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York and developed for RUFA's Tracks of Freedom project, AFTERTASTE explores fast food packaging as the residue of a city that never stops consuming. New York is a mouth that never stops chewing: cups, greasy bags, and takeout boxes, objects made to be held for ten minutes and forgotten forever. The project follows what happens after. A logo designed to sell a coffee outlives the coffee, the cup, and the hand that held it, until it ends up on the asphalt, face up, still advertising. Collected from the streets of New York, these objects trace a single cycle, buy, use, dump, and the mark it leaves on the city. What remains is an aesthetic of saturation: colors, graphics, and textures that cover the street until you stop seeing them. Design that has lost its purpose and stayed anyway, the lingering scent of everyday capitalism. The project takes shape as a landing page that unfolds the whole exploration, from concept to a gallery of collected waste, and resolves into four posters, each one a stage of the cycle: buy, use, and dump.
